Ratomir Djugovic of Serbia may take over he Nigeria head coach of the Super Eagles, Shuaibu Amodu as he is the favourite out of five people shortlisted by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF)  as  new manager for the Super Eagles

Other coaches recommended by the NFF for the post of Technical Adviser are, both of the Netherlands

The federation said that it had not yet officially approached any of the managers but that a one month screening process would now commence with a view to appointing one of the shortlisted coaches as technical adviser.

It was also announced that the beleaguered head coach of the Super Eagles, Shuaibu Amodu, would not be sacked but would move aside to take charge of the affairs of the home based players.

The announcement was made late on Friday night by NFF technical committee chairman, Taiwo Ogunjobi who added that the meeting was adjourned until Tuesday next week.

Ratomir Dujkovic, who coached Ghana for two years, is currently the manager of the Under-21 Serbian team and has coached in various parts of Africa.

Nigeria  will soon sign three key agreement with India  for trade promotion, investment protection and avoidance of double taxation.

Nigerian President, His Excellency Umaru Yaradua is dead according to authoritative sources at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre.

He died on the 10th of December at 3.30pm at an Intensive Care Unit at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Jeddah Saudi-Arabia. Sources at the Hospital say that the First lady wants to keep the news secret for the next few days for personal reasons.

The president left Nigeria fifty days ago after complaining of Chest pains. Sources at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Jeddah say that the president suffered among many other things, kidney failure, stroke and massive brain damage.

The President has been bedridden ever since. Nigerian officials had previously lied to the country that the president’s health was getting better while his situation got worse. The president was conspicuously silent regarding the Christmas day bombing in which a 23-year-old Nigerian, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to detonate a bomb on an aircraft that carried nearly 300 people.

Unknown militants have attacked a Nigerian crude oil pipeline, operated by U.S. oil major Chevron

“The Chevron Makaraba crude pipeline located in Delta state was attacked early today by some unknown persons,” one security source said.

A second security source said the pipeline was shutdown for repairs. Chevron officials could not be immediately reached for comment.

The pipeline has been vulnerable to attack in the past, most recently by militants linked to the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND

) in June 2009.

Violence in the oil-rich Niger Delta has subsided for the past few months after thousands of gunmen handed over their weapons and accepted President Umaru Yar’Adua’s amnesty offer.

Nigerian Foreign Minister Ojo Maduekwe says US classification of Nigeria as a security rick country is not acceptable  and on Tuesday protested to the US ambassador to the country

A 23 year old Nigerian,  son of Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru Mutallab, the immediate past Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria PLC is facing charges in United States over a foiled bid to blow up a plane in Detroit United States, yesterday

Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab is  an engineering student at University College London with suspected links to Al Qaeda.

Mutallab has allegedly tried to light up explosives while Flight 253 of Northwest was making a landing in Detroit on December 25.

He had an explosive device close to his groin and was successful at initial ignition of the device causing smoke to billow in the cabin. However, his further actions were stopped by passengers and crew, among them Jasper Schuringa, who wrestled the explosive device away from Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab and covered it with his own hands. The European Union will launch a project in Nigeria on the sustainable utilization of gas and renewable energy resources today

The project, funded by the European Union, is called EU SUNGAS and will be implemented by the International Institute for Energy Development (IIED), UK.

The project seeks to improve access to energy by Nigeria’s citizens from renewable and non renewable sources. It will be implemented in the Niger Delta region over the next three years, at a cost of 460 Million Naira (about €2.3 million).

The launching ceremony will take place  at the conference hall of the Valencia Hotel in Abuja, and is expected to give the general public the opportunity to know more about the project.

Expected at the event are the representative of the current presidency of the European Union Sweden, EU member states and the Delegation of the European Union in Nigeria.

The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the reduction of poverty and conflict and achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and the Nigerian government’s goals of National Vision 20/20 by enhancing the potential for Nigeria to resolve its energy crisis using its own energy resources in a sustainable manner.

This project is also in line with the 7-point agenda of the current administration of the Federal republic of Nigeria and will contribute to the reduction of the impact of Climate Change in the Niger Delta region.

The project would be managed by a group of three national NGOs (Social Development Integrated Centre, Niger Delta Wetlands Centre & Living Earth Nigeria Foundation) and an international NGO (Living Earth Foundation), under the leadership of the UK-based IIED.

At the end of the project it is expected that a reformed policy framework to promote sustainable utilization of gas flaring for community based electricity provision and energy is developed.

In addition, a community based demonstration project for utilization of flared gas to generate electricity for household and enterprise consumption, support to public services in the target communities and five community-based renewable energy facilities. The product would work on scaling up and replicating lessons and successes of the pilot initiatives in order to satisfy the energy service requirements of communities in the Niger Delta.

The project would also initiate networks and build capacity of Institutions managing Energy issues in Nigeria to be able continue work beyond the life of the project, including a multi-stakeholder Energy Policy Forum, a civil society coalition to address energy policy, and Community Energy Councils in target communities.
